Publisher’s note
A partial register of the names of Yugoslav casualties of war 1941 – 1945, published on this CD-ROM, has been taken over from the Web-site of the Jasenovac Research Institute, in the United States of America, www.jasenovac.org.
Even this register is incomplete and should therefore be regarded with reservations, inasmuch as it does not specify its primary sources, although it is evident that these were the government institutions of former Yugoslavia. The Jasenovac Research Institute Web-site does not state explicitly what the registry stands for, though it obviously contains the names of victims from the entire territory of Yugoslavia, perished on different locations. The list does not give enough quality parameters for scientific research either (for example, it does not present the exact execution sites, like Jasenovac, etc.).
Any register—including this one—should be taken merely as a basis for further research, aimed at establishing the victims and their destinies individually. The maps and graphs on the CD-ROM, computer-generated by analyzing the database (the geographical and generational statistics of the victims of genocide) should also be interpreted in the same sense — they are just illustrations of the historical events and not a definitive scientific result.
Collecting data about the victims does not necessarily have to be organized on a "governmental" level. One can fill in the form given here below and input the information about one’s family, hometown or village.
The Museum of the Victims of the Genocide is working on a project. "Revision of the Register of the Casualties of War 1941 – 1945, from 1964", entering data with full name of each victim regardless of ethnic, religious, racial, ideological or military affiliation, identifying victims from different locations and of different nationalities.
All amendments, initiated by any register, can be sent to the Museum of the Victims of Genocide for inputting into the revised register.

We are quite aware that the total number of victims may never be established completely, but we should nonetheless make an attempt to make it as exact as possible, to humanize the victims and to, at least, record their names.

The List of the Victims’ Places of Birth
Note: Since the data of the Jasenovac Research Institute do not give geographical coordinates of the places of birth, there is a possibility of grouping a number of smaller places under one name (for example Gradina, Novo Selo, Bare...). The list is given as an illustration of the historical events, not as a scientific source. For the next edition of the CD-ROM this list may be prepared by a more precise scientific method.
