Donja Gradina – 79290 Kozarska Dubica
Republic of Srpska / Bosnia and Herzegovina

Donja Gradina is the biggest mass execution site within the Jasenovac concentration camp complex. At least one half out of the total number of the Jasenovac's victims was killed in Donja Gradina, in the most monstrous manner. Gradina had continuously been an integral part of the Jasenovac camp all the while it existed, as the site for mass execution and the burial ground, where the Ustasha carried out genocide against the Serbs, the Jews and the Romanies. (See: Bishop Atanasije Jevtić: Jasenovac — A Martyred Town, 1990)

The memorial area of Jasenovac, including Donja Gradina, was established in 1968. After the breakup of SFRY, Donja Gradina and the sites on the right banks of the Una and the Sava remained in the Republic of Srpska/Bosnia and Herzegovina . The national parliament of the Republic of Srpska enacted a law on the memorial area of Donja Gradina in November 1996. Today it is a public institution with eight employees.

There are nine burial grounds with 105 mass graves on the area of 156 hectares. This fact testifies that Donja Gradina deserves the highest level of scientific and historical research as well as the media attention.
