DELEGATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL TASK FORCE ON HOLOCAUST EDUCATION IN VISIT TO SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO

International Task Force was formed on Swedish initiative in 1998, when founding countries accepted Stockholm Declaration. By accepting this Declaration, countries are obliged to introduce the Holocaust education as mandatory subject in schools.

Curriculums and textbooks are developed together with Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and The International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem ; Yad Vashem is also cooperating in teacher training. On a meeting with Task Force delegation, Vuk Drašković, Serbian minister for foreign affairs requested that Serbia will be accepted as observer immediately at the Task Force meeting in Budapest in December this year. In Montenegro , Slobodan Franović of the local Helsinki committee for human rights requested from Montenegrin authorities to establish memorial day for the Holocaust and proposed January 27, day of the liberation of Auschwitz .
